Larone Wonnum: Teacher of the Year
Larone Wonnum, CMS
Lonnie Wonnum has been teaching for nine years and has been teaching 8th Grade Physical Science and Carnegie Physical Science for the past four years at Conyers Middle School. Before stepping into the classroom, he spent 12 years as a Chemical Analyst and Lab Manager, bringing a unique, real-world perspective to his teaching.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family. He has been married to his wife Shakeerah for 19 years and they have two children Kai, age 16 and Kieran, age 12. When he's not exploring new places with family and friends, he can be found binge-watching his favorite crime shows like NCIS and The Equalizer. He also enjoys beautifying his neighborhood by removing litter and gardening, participating in toy collection and distribution during the holidays, and taking senior citizens to doctor’s appointments and picking up their medication.

"My most rewarding experience is witnessing the growth and success of my students," he said. "Seeing a student overcome challenges, grasp difficult concepts, and develop a passion for learning. I cherish moments when students express gratitude or share how my guidance has made a difference in their long-term success."
