UPDATE ON FAMILY REUNION
In order to get the hotel to prepare a Saturday evening banquet, and a Sunday dinner, the local committee must make the necessary arrangements and pay for those items up front. McKinley Bradley, chairman of local arrangements committee, has negotiated the following costs: Saturday banquet $14 per person ($7 for children under 10); Sunday dinner-after church $14 per person ($7 for children under 10). In addition, the costs of an "Oxford Family Reunion" T-shirt is approximately $7, and the rental of a bus for a bus trip to the country in Parrott will be approximately $3-$5 per person. If we figure the above items as a package, it equals $40 for each adult and $26 for each child. Those sums will pay for the following for each person: (1) a ticket to the Saturday evening banquet, (2) a ticket for the Sunday dinner, (3) an "Oxford Family Reunion" souvenir T-shirt, and (4) a bus ride to the country in Parrott. The local arrangements committee must pay the $40 for each adult, and the $26 for each child, up front. We are asking each person who plans to attend the reunion, to send the aforementioned sums to McKinley Bradley. He and his committee will open a reunion account at a local bank, and will pay the appropriate costs for the items that were mentioned. Make checks or money orders payable to "The Oxford Family Reunion Account." Send the check or money order along with the enclosed form to "Brad" at the following address: McKinley Bradley P.O. Interview With Mrs. Ruthie Lattimore
Early in December I had a long phone conversation with Mrs. Ruthie Lattimore of Parrott, Georgia. Mrs. Lattimore is the sister of Mrs. Beulah McCloud. Their grandmother ("Aunt Hun"--Mrs. Beulah Maxie) was Mance Oxford's sister. Mrs. Lattimore has spent most of her life ("off and on") in Parrott, and knows almost everyone connected with the Oxford clan. Mrs. Lattimore gave me a lot of information which I will share with you in future newsletters. For now I will summarize some of what she told me about some of the sisters of Mance Oxford, and one sister of Sarah Ann Oxford. Mrs. Lattimore gave me the names of the husband and children of three of Mance Oxford's sisters. "Aunt Hun," or Beulah Oxford Maxie was Mance Oxford's sister. She married Jim Maxie, and the couple had eight children. Their children were: Janie Mae, Beulah, Willie Bell and Willa Bell (twins), Emma, Adel, Charlie Will, and Theo. Emma, Adel, and Charlie Will are still living. Ada Oxford ("Aunt Ada") was also one of Mance Oxford's sisters. Aunt Ada married Jim Williams and the couple had four children. Their children were: Bessie, Josephine, "Little Jim," and Jesse Bell "Cousin Sis." Ophelia Oxford was another one of Mance Oxford's sisters. She married a man whose last name was Smith. (Mrs. Lattimore could not recall his first name). The couple had two children: Otis and Dean. Mrs. Lattimore did not know a lot about Grandmother Sarah Oxford's family. She did know Sarah Oxford's sister Emmaline. Emmaline married Barney Moon and the couple had 10 children. The names of the children were: Charlie Will, Carrie Mae, Sarah B., Alma Lee, Vera, Ethel, Beatrice, Luther J., Barney, Jr-., and George. Uncle Barney and Aunt Emmaline spent most of their lives in Parrott, and are buried in the cemetery behind Macedonia Church in Parrott.
FAMILY HISTORY SLIDE SHOW
We are preparing a slide show on the Oxford family, which will be shown during the reunion. We have made slides from pictures from an old family album. That album has many pictures from the 1930s and 40s showing children and a few grandchildren of Mance and Sarah Oxford. However, for the family reunion we would like to increase the number of slides in the collection. If any of you have old photographs of your family, or other relatives of Mance and Sarah Oxford, please send them to me on loan and I will copy them onto slides. I promise to return the originals to you. We want all of the families to be represented in the slide show. Send the photographs to me at the following address:
